A New Paradigm: Healing Centered Engagement
In this talk, Dr. Ginwright illustrates how trauma-informed care has become an important approach within institutions that serve young people who have been harmed. Using the latest research blended with deeply personal stories, Dr. Ginwright shows why the term trauma informed care is important but is incomplete. He provides vivid examples of how our approaches to support young people often creates blinds spots and limits how we support young people with healing. He will share insights into how racial and social inequality create trauma and how we can create a climate of healing, restoration and well-being which is sorely needed in today’s world.
Dr. Ginwright advances the term “Healing Centered Engagement” which offers an expansive perspective of young people and a holistic approach that restores well-being among young people who experience trauma. Healing Centered Engagement builds upon trauma-informed frameworks by supporting systems to shift from harm, discipline, punishment and confinement to restoration, hope, and healing.
