Learning Planet Festival: events for higher education and research not to be missed! The Learning Planet Institute is organising its annual Festival from 24 to 28 January 2023. This event will focus on the transformation of learning models to better respond to the challenges of transitions: ecological, social, technological, etc. Higher education and research will therefore be part of the event, both as actors and event organisers! Learning Planet Festival: Unite a community of pioneers, showcase the transformation. Organised around International Education Day (24/01), in partnership with UNESCO, the Learning Planet Festival is an annual event that federates a community of pioneers, creates movement and shows that the transformation of educational models is necessary, that new approaches exist and are already being successfully implemented around the world, says Olivier Bréchard, director of the Festival organised from 24 to 28/01/2023 by the Learning Planet Institute.

Mind the gaps: the world needs to radically transform its educational systems, not just upgrade them. In September 2022 the United Nations organised the first-ever high-level Transforming Education Summit, inviting stakeholders to put forward commitments and tackle the challenges we face. Once again we heard how staggering the needs are: in lower-income countries, 25% of young people and just over 55% of adults are still illiterate, while 250 million children remain out of primary school.

Debate: Rethinking citizenship to better understand the youth? The Declaration of the Rights of the Child will celebrate its centenary in 2024. In the face of the complex crises that confront us, the legacy of Eglantyne Jebb, the author of the Declaration, and her insistence that children’s rights be placed high on the agenda of the global community must be heeded more than ever.

The researcher François Taddei, co-founder and president of the Learning Planet Institute, believes that we need to move away from the logic of hypercompetition of knowledge: Every 100 years, there is 100 times more knowledge. Do we have to stay at school a 100 times longer? No. We must learn to learn. Festival #EtMaintenant

What if we had constructive debates? The extraordinary synchronisation of our experiences due to the pandemic is fostering a global awareness of the urgency of reinventing ourselves and offering us the opportunity to transform our modes of organisation. This implies, both upstream and downstream of political decisions, sharing and exchanging, and therefore offering the necessary conditions for constructive citizen conversations.

Debate: What if we and our societies entered our “second lives”? Confucius said that we have two lives and that the second begins when we realise that we have only one. What if this is true not only of each of us but also of our institutions, our democracy, our very species?
