Mind the gaps: the world needs to radically transform its educational systems, not just upgrade them. In September 2022 the United Nations organised the first-ever high-level Transforming Education Summit, inviting stakeholders to put forward commitments and tackle the challenges we face. Once again we heard how staggering the needs are: in lower-income countries, 25% of young people and just over 55% of adults are still illiterate, while 250 million children remain out of primary school.

Do we have to stay at school a 100 times longer? No. We must learn to learn. Festival #EtMaintenant

What if we had constructive debates? The extraordinary synchronisation of our experiences due to the pandemic is fostering a global awareness of the urgency of reinventing ourselves and offering us the opportunity to transform our modes of organisation. This implies, both upstream and downstream of political decisions, sharing and exchanging, and therefore offering the necessary conditions for constructive citizen conversations.

Debate: What if we and our societies entered our “second lives”? Confucius said that we have two lives and that the second begins when we realise that we have only one. What if this is true not only of each of us but also of our institutions, our democracy, our very species?
