{"id":3592,"date":"2025-11-18T21:32:43","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T20:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lpinstitute.dev.onpressidium.com\/?post_type=bio&#038;p=3592"},"modified":"2026-02-23T18:33:49","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T17:33:49","slug":"francois-taddei","status":"publish","type":"bio","link":"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/bio\/francois-taddei\/","title":{"rendered":"Fran\u00e7ois Taddei"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Biography<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fran\u00e7ois Taddei, co-founder and president of the Learning Planet Institute, is an internationally renowned researcher.<\/p>\n<p>Convinced that the future of learning must be co-constructed with learners, he explores educational transitions and \u201cplanetizenship\u201d \u2014 learning to care for oneself, others and the planet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">He advocates large-scale collaboration to co-build \u2014 with all stakeholders, from young people to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/lunesco-category-2-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNESCO<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/united-nations-universitys-1st-pole-in-france\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Nations University<\/a> (UNU) \u2014 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/learning-planet-academy\/\" target=\"_self\">Learning Planet Academy<\/a>, powered by technology and grounded in interdisciplinary sciences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">His goal is not to train the best students <em>in<\/em> in the world, but the best students <em>for<\/em> for the world \u2014 by strengthening their agency and their ability to care for global commons and to become \u201cthe change they wish to see in the world.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>From CRI to Learning Planet Institute<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Passionate about youth education, Fran\u00e7ois Taddei co-founded the Centre de Recherches Interdisciplinaires (CRI) in Paris in 2006. Its mission was to train the next generation of scientists working at the interface of life sciences, learning sciences and digital technologies. In 2021, CRI became the Learning Planet Institute.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fran\u00e7ois Taddei is founder and president of the Learning Planet Institute (formerly the Centre for Research and Interdisciplinarity - CRI).<\/li>\n<li>An internationally renowned researcher in evolutionary systems biology, he now devotes his time to the sciences of learning and teaching.<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">He promotes large-scale collaboration \u2014 notably with UNESCO and the United Nations University \u2014 to build a learning planet and foster learning communities working together to develop sustainable solutions in Education and Health, while advancing the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainable Development Goals<\/a> (SDGs).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>External collaborations<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">In 2020, Fran\u00e7ois Taddei spearheaded the creation of the Institut des D\u00e9fis (CRI\/Learning Planet Institute \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/u-paris.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9<\/a>), which prototypes a new model of a learning university designed to address today\u2019s and tomorrow\u2019s global challenges. He believes that by fostering diversity, trust, exploration, co-creation and collective intelligence at multiple scales, universities can catalyse the emergence of solutions to personal, collective and global challenges identified by students.<\/li>\n<li>Alongside the Learning Planet Institute, Fran\u00e7ois Taddei also runs the Institut Des D\u00e9fis.<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Fran\u00e7ois Taddei has held research chairs funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orange.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orange<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axa.com\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axa<\/a>, , as well as foundations such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondationbs.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fondation Bettencourt Schueller<\/a>. Since 2014, he has served as co-director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/la-chaire-sciences-de-lapprendre\/\" target=\"_self\">UNESCO Chair \u201cLearning Sciences\u201d<\/a>, at Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9, promoting integrated research, training, information and documentation activities in education sciences, research and educational foresight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"btn--base\" href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/unesco-chair-in-learning-sciences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNESCO Chair in \"Learning Sciences\u201c<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Education &amp; Academic Training<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">After graduating in general sciences (specialising in physics and biology) from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polytechnique.edu\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00c9cole Polytechnique<\/a>, Fran\u00e7ois Taddei became a senior civil servant at the <a href=\"https:\/\/agriculture.gouv.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ministry of Agriculture<\/a> before completing a PhD in genetics under <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miroslav_Radman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Miroslav Radman<\/a> focusing on the molecular causes and evolutionary consequences of mutation rate changes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Following a postdoctoral fellowship with <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Maynard_Smith\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Maynard Smith<\/a>, where he modelled mutation rate evolution, his research team studied the evolution and molecular mechanisms of cooperation, genetic changes, gene expression errors, pathogenicity, antibiotic resistance and ageing in E. coli. He was the first to study ageing in this model organism, revealing these processes using microfluidics and systems biology approaches. His work has led to numerous publications in leading scientific journals and several awards. Academic milestones:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1999: Habilitation to direct research, University of Paris XI.
