<\/p>\nIn this talk, Dr. Ginwright shows how trauma-informed care has become an important approach within institutions caring for young people who have experienced harm. Drawing on the latest research and very personal stories, Dr. Ginwright shows why the term \u201ctrauma-informed care\u201d is important but incomplete. He gives vivid examples of how our approaches to supporting young people often create blind spots and limit how we help young people heal. He will explain how racial and social inequalities create trauma, and how we can create a climate of healing, restoration and well-being that is sorely lacking in today's world. Dr. Ginwright proposes the term \u201cHealing Centered Engagement,\u201d which offers a broadened perspective of youth and a holistic approach that restores well-being in young people experiencing trauma. Healing Centered Engagement builds on trauma-informed frameworks by helping systems move from harm, discipline, punishment and confinement to restoration, hope and healing.<\/p>\n
Shawn Ginwright is the Jerome T. Murphy Professor of Practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dr. Ginwright is an experienced nonprofit leader, co-founder and CEO of Flourish Agenda, Inc. a pioneering research lab and consulting firm dedicated to unleashing the healing power and empowering youth of color, as well as their adult allies, to drive transformative change in their schools and communities. Mr. Ginwright is the author of many acclaimed books, including \u201cThe Four Pivots: Reimagining Justice, Reimagining Ourselves\u201d and \u201cHope and Healing in Urban Education: How Urban Activists and Teachers Are Reclaiming Matters of the Heart.\u201d<\/p>\n
