Research must extend across all disciplines and levels of analysis, addressing themes such as poverty, power, social organization, resources and the environment, which are at the heart of explanations for the success or failure of development. I propose a new theoretical framework for analyzing these issues, one that is better able to deal with the problems of causality that arise in any investigation of population and development. But what exactly are causal relationships supposed to include? What “changes” and “responses” need to be taken into account? I'll examine the relationships between the two, showing, in the case of sub-Saharan Africa, how field research provides a better understanding of the structural inertia at the heart of underdevelopment. I will share concrete examples drawn from my field experience in Africa that illustrate these theoretical viewpoints

--

This masterclass program is organized by the EURIP Graduate School (École Universitaire de Recherche Interdisciplinaire de Paris). Located at the Learning Planet Institute, in collaboration with Université Paris Cité, it brings together the AIRE Master's program (Approaches to Interdisciplinary Research and Education) and the FIRE doctoral school (Frontières de l'Innovation en Recherche et Éducation). EURIP welcomes post-graduate students and early-career researchers who wish to tackle global challenges related to sustainability and planetary health through innovative interdisciplinary approaches.

Invitation-only event - for more information , contact our team

[99
80
82,86
post-2551","events","type-events","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","event-type-masterclass","event-format-en-presentiel","event-public-evenement-interne","event-public-evenement-sur-invitation
Learning Planet Institute, 8 bis, Rue Charles V, Quartier de l'Arsenal, Paris 4e Arrondissement, Paris, Île-de-France, France métropolitaine, 75004, France
["GET
