At the Learning Planet Institute, we believe in learning transitions through interdisciplinarity, participatory science, collective intelligence and artificial intelligence (AI). We develop scientific theories, methods and tools to study planetary transitions, as well as learning transitions. At the beginning of the year, our seminar on the \u00abEthics of AI\u00bb brought together philosophers, mathematicians, computer scientists and sociologists to study the ethics of large-scale language models (\u00ab Large Language Models<\/em> \u00bbor \u00ab LLM<\/em> \u00bb).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 16 and 17, 2024, the R&D department<\/a> of the Learning Planet Institute organized a seminar on the ethical dimensions of the answers provided by large-scale language models, such as ChatGPT, to users' sensitive questions and moral dilemmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Co-chaired by Fran\u00e7ois Taddei<\/a>, President of the Learning Planet Institute, and Martin Gibert<\/a>, the\u2019University of Montreal<\/a>, The event welcomed 30 philosophers, mathematicians, computer scientists and sociologists, personally invited for the occasion. Every participant was eager to contribute and take part in the interactive presentations, hands-on sessions and in-depth discussions on the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two days produced excellent results. The general consensus was positive. Yes, we can learn ethics from AI, and the joint evolution of human ethics and AI ethics is key to the future of our planet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A thought-provoking discussion at the latest LearningPlanet festival<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The LearningPlanet festival<\/a> is an annual event where students, teachers, academics, artists and innovators turn learning into a means of promoting a fairer, more ecological society. For this fifth edition, we explored the latest trends in education, as well as new learning models. To mark International Education Day, panelists and participants embarked on a journey into the ethical dimension of major language models, a discussion fueled by the seminar previously organized on this theme at the Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
