{"id":630,"date":"2021-05-10T14:01:12","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T12:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lpinstitute.dev.onpressidium.com\/news\/609958ef7fbe52c4a61b0820\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T22:44:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T21:44:42","slug":"aire-masters-students-innovate-to-meet-pandemic-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/news\/les-etudiant%c2%b7e%c2%b7s-du-master-aire-innovent-pour-relever-les-defis-de-la-pandemie\/","title":{"rendered":"AIRE Master's students innovate to meet the challenges of the pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six students from the <a href=\"https:\/\/master.cri-paris.org\/en\/digital\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Master of AIRE<\/a> took part in the\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/hackathon-covid.fr\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Covid Hackathon<\/a>\u201dA 48-hour marathon to create tools to combat the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The event took place on April 23 and 24, hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.modernisation.gouv.fr\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Interministerial Department for Public Transformation<\/a> (DITP) with the support of <a href=\"https:\/\/solidarites-sante.gouv.fr\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ministry of Solidarity and Health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>180 participants, from all walks of life, took part in the hackathon and examined the following topics <strong>four major challenges<\/strong> :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Better support for Covid victims in the short and long term,<\/li>\n<li>Streamline the vaccination campaign,<\/li>\n<li>Follow the evolution of the pandemic differently,<\/li>\n<li>Measuring risks and encouraging virtuous behavior.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yunus Emre Celik, Nina Varchavsky, Selim Benslama, Camille Duquesne, Paul Montecot Grall and Merlyn J. Hurtado du <a href=\"https:\/\/master.cri-paris.org\/en\/digital\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Master AIRE - Digital Sciences<\/a> were involved in two working groups to which they contributed their expertise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forum.hackathon-covid.fr\/t\/3b-mieux-suivre-les-conditions-meteorologiques-favorisant-les-contaminations\/161\/2\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Better monitoring of weather conditions conducive to contamination<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\u201c<em>Groups were formed with the idea of enabling exchanges between different players: civil society, healthcare professionals and institutions. I chose the Climat Covid project, which is based on data from M\u00e9t\u00e9o France and Predict, who have developed an indicator (IPTCC) to monitor the risk of virus propagation linked to temperature and humidity. We decided to create a dashboard to visualize this indicator in France over time. The first prototype is available <a href=\"https:\/\/climat-covid.herokuapp.com\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>:<\/em>\u201dsays Nina Varchavsky, a student of the <a href=\"https:\/\/master.cri-paris.org\/en\/digital\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Master of AIRE<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forum.hackathon-covid.fr\/t\/4f-mettre-en-lien-des-indicateurs-de-sante-mentale-et-la-dynamique-de-lepidemie\/371\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Linking mental health indicators to epidemic dynamics<\/a><\/strong><br \/>The current health situation is also having an impact on the mental health of affected populations. In this project, participants studied the links between epidemic data and data concerning the mental health of French people. Participants questioned the correlations between anxiety message curves (Google Trends, call platforms, etc.), the contamination curve, key events and political communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201c<em>For me, the hackathon was an opportunity to meet new people, work collaboratively on a topical project and encourage Open Data initiatives. Even though the event was online, we found the stimulating energy and team dynamics of the hackathons.\u201d <\/em>concludes<em> <\/em>Nina Varchavsky.<\/p>\n<p>The event was a great success, and AIRE Master's students distinguished themselves by the quality of their participation.
