With the <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/learning-planet-academy\/\"><b>Learning Planet Academy<\/b><\/a><b>, the Learning Planet Institute is continuing and expanding its commitment to transforming education to meet the today's global challenges. The association is taking a new step in its commitment by offering innovative learning pathways, co-constructed with youth and designed to (re)empower them and meet the challenges of the XXI\u1d49 century. Supported in particular by the United Nations University and UNESCO, this initiative embodies the vision of an education focused on impact. Ga\u00ebll Mainguy, Executive Director, outlines its ambitions.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>If you had to present the LPAcademy in a few words, what would you say?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/learning-planet-academy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LPAcademy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a holistic educational project. Our programmes are developed in collaboration with  young people to meet their needs and adapt to their expectations.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately, our aim is to offer courses on essential topics that are often overlooked at university: climate, sustainability, peace, democracy, social and emotional learning, and mental health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>How does LPAcademy build on twenty years of work at the Learning Planet Institute?\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The LPAcademy is the continuation and culmination of the <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/support-us\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Learning Planet Institute\u2019s<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> work on how we learn, teach and conduct research. It is built on four complementary pillars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Education sits at the core. LPAcademy offers learning pathways such as <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/programs\/ikigai\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ikigai+<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which helps students find their direction, and <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/programs\/in-the-mood\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MOODs<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meaningful Open Opportunities for Discovery<\/span><\/i>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">). These are certified online programmes that encourage learners to develop real-world, impact-driven projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This work is grounded in research, which underpins everything we do. Our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/expertise\/research\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">R&amp;D<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> activities continuously inform our methods and enable the development of new tools and projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Support and capacity-building allow us to work alongside institutions and territories as they transform. One example is <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/i-am\/association-company-institution\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grigny<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, in the \u00cele-de-France region, where our teams support educators working with young people aged 0 to 25. This includes working with the city\u2019s Early Childhood Department to design and implement a new approach to support the transition from nursery to school, and to strengthen early learning and language development before primary education. They develop concrete projects at the intersection of research and social entrepreneurship, with a strong focus on impact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also place a strong emphasis on ethical reflection, which is essential for our organisations, our technologies and our societies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>You have said that some topics are still insufficiently addressed at university, and that ethical reflection is not always explored in depth. Did this lead you to create LPAcademy?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, in part. At the core of the issue is the fact that, collectively, we are not well prepared for today\u2019s challenges.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/fr\/about\/programmes\/pisa.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The latest OECD PISA studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> show that our education systems are struggling to develop the skills that are essential for the 21st century, such as learning to ask the right questions in an uncertain world, as well as adaptability, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and the rational use of artificial intelligence.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All these skills will be at the heart of the LPAcademy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Why is there such a gap between today\u2019s education systems and the needs of the contemporary world?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traditional education too often relies on the one-way transmission of knowledge from teacher to student. These methods do not prepare learners to tackle problems with no predefined solutions, which is the reality of most complex and emerging challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Education systems are also frequently built around competition. Yet today\u2019s challenges require collaboration, not competition based on yesterday\u2019s knowledge. Institutions exhaust themselves chasing global rankings and place students in competition to be the best in the world. What we need instead is to prepare the best students for the world \u2014 for their country, their region and their communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>This is all the more important as these challenges generate significant anxiety among young people, as shown by several international studies. <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yes, which is why organisations such as the OECD, UNESCO and the United Nations \u2014 including the <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/unu.edu\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">United Nations University<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (UNU) \u2014 are calling for new learning frameworks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Young people need to understand global transformations and develop the skills required to build their future and more peaceful, sustainable and inclusive societies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Responding to these needs is central to the mission of the Learning Planet Institute: to empower learners and organisations to meet new challenges through interdisciplinary, collaborative and adaptive approaches to learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5437\" src=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/cirp-students-youth-eurip-workshop-dday-2025.webp\" width=\"1366\" height=\"910\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/cirp-students-youth-eurip-workshop-dday-2025.webp 1366w, https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/cirp-students-youth-eurip-workshop-dday-2025-480x320.webp 480w, https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/cirp-students-youth-eurip-workshop-dday-2025-768x512.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/cirp-students-youth-eurip-workshop-dday-2025-992x661.webp 992w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1366px) 100vw, 1366px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Skills to become citizens of the planet<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>What does it mean in practice to train students to be \u201cthe best for the world, not the best in the world\u201d?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our educational vision is to support students in learning to care for themselves, for others and for the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the LPAcademy, this will take three main forms:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Firstly, access to high-quality knowledge on subjects that are taught too little (Sustainable Development Goals, climate, peace, sustainability, socio-emotional learning); ;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Secondly, the acquisition of 21st century skills using a variety of methods and tools (project-based learning, collective intelligence, tutoring, AI, etc.); ;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last but not least, the Learning Planet Institute has awarded a certificate as a UNESCO category 2 centre and hub of the United Nations University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>In short, LPAcamedy meets both collective and individual needs.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes. What role does the United Nations University play in the project?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Learning Planet Institute and the\u2019<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unu.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">United Nations University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been working together for several years.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The UNU focuses mainly on research and public policy, and is interested in our participatory approach with young people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>This collaboration was recently strengthened with the opening of the first UNU hub in France, based on your campus.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yes, in March 2025, UNU and the Institute embarked on a close collaboration around the <\/span><a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00abUnited Nations University Hub on the Future of Learning with Youth in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)\u00bb<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. (United Nations University Hub on the Future of Learning with Youth in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This hub is structured around three pillars: research on co-construction with young people, training for youth, educators and decision-makers, and advocacy on these issues.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This partnership provides the LPAcademy with a strong scientific foundation and access to a global network, enhancing both its reach and its credibility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>This milestone was soon followed by another major international recognition from UNESCO.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Indeed, in November 2025, <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/lunesco-category-2-center\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Learning Planet Institute was officially designated a UNESCO Category II Centre (C2C) in France<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This status enables LPI, as part of a global network of centres of excellence, to make a significant contribution to the implementation of UNESCO\u2019s global priorities, programmes and development agendas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In practical terms, this will mean a broader international deployment of our methods, tools and practices, increased research and development activities in the field of learning transitions, and a stronger voice for young people in decisions shaping the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Partners committed to impact-driven projects<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Who supports the Learning Planet Institute in these initiatives?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Learning Planet Institute relies on strong partnerships with key international players such as UNU and UNESCO. We also contribute to the work of the OECD and are preparing agreements with governments and an increasing number of education institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our supporters include universities such as\u2019<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/u-paris.fr\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (which accredits our diplomas), the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paris.fr\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">City of Paris<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the French government, as well as a number of major foundations and companies (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stellantis.com\/fr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stellantis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.porticus.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Porticus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubaicares.ae\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dubai Cares<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/the.akdn\/fr\/notre-processus\/agences\/fondation-aga-khan\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aga Khan Foundation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondationloreal.com\/fr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L'Or\u00e9al Foundation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpmorganchase.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JPMorganChase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondationorange.com\/fr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Orange Foundation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These partnerships enable us to develop accredited degrees and tools with global reach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Do you have any concrete examples?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2024-2025, with the support of UNESCO, we have launched the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/programs\/learning-planet-youth-design-challenge\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Youth Design Challenge<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This challenge invites young people aged between 15 and 26 to co-design a new-generation global academy, adapted to today's transitions.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, the challenge brought together more than 3,000 participants from over 100 countries, who presented innovative projects focused on engagement, wellbeing and sustainability.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also a very concrete way of building the LPAcademy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>So LPAcademy is already taking shape?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Exactly. We are currently developing new learning formats: the <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/programs\/in-the-mood\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MOODs<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meaningful Open Opportunities for Discovery<\/span><\/i>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">) are co-designed with young people and partners and combine different activities to support the development of 21st-century skills and knowledge on key topics such as <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/programs\/in-the-mood-for-climate-action\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">climate<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/programs\/mooc-solutions-for-a-sustainable-world\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sustainability<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/programs\/in-the-mood-for-peaceful-futures\/\" target=\"_self\">\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">peace<\/span>\n<\/a>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>What are the LPAcademy\u2019s short- and medium-term objectives?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the coming months, we aim to scale up our work by developing new learning pathways and expanding our partner network, particularly by deploying these programmes within partner universities.
