For the past two years, the\u2019<a href=\"http:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/about\/institut-des-defis\/\">Challenge Institute<\/a> (IDD), co-founded by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\/\">Learning Planet Institute<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u-paris.fr\/\">Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9<\/a>, is tasked with transforming the university in conjunction with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/fr\/objectifs-de-developpement-durable\/\">Sustainable Development Objectives <\/a>(SDGs), set by the UN.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Part of the\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Initiative_d%27excellence\">Excellence Initiatives<\/a>\u201dAt Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9, funding was renewed for the Institut des D\u00e9fis, whose mission has become a necessity. This is an opportunity to take stock, to learn from these actions, to refine them and to capitalize on the resources produced for the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>The IDD's first historic mission is to transform the university (and by trickle-down, society), by disseminating the methods and challenges of collective intelligence and sustainable development. Over the past two years, the IDD has initiated several <a href=\"https:\/\/institutdesdefis.learningplanetinstitute.org\/fr\"><div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div><\/a> by drawing on the Learning Planet Institute's emblematic know-how, as well as its methodology, tools and environment. On June 23, the project leaders presented their achievements to a panel of judges, each contributing to the development of education and sustainability.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Another dance:<\/strong> Giving the body and emotions a place in university teaching.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Virtuosi Kids <\/strong>: Musical awakening is within the reach of all children.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SaVvHa <\/strong>: Making a living out of your profession... and passing it on<\/li>\n<li><strong>M.U. Mobile Utile : <\/strong>A personalized system for preventing musculoskeletal disorders and integrating people with disabilities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Phoenix project:<\/strong> A place for textile artisans to exchange ideas and ideas, and to get other people thinking about what a more sustainable textile craft might look like.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A whole village:<\/strong> Turnkey solutions for welcoming newcomers to a school and enhancing the skills of teaching and support staff.<\/li>\n<li><strong>EcoGenA:<\/strong> Licence pro de G\u00e9nie \u00e9cologique en alternance avec des Apprentissages Actives et Accessibles pour tous-tes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Innovation:<\/strong> Discover the Community of Practice and its many benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card kg-card-hascaption\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter full-size wp-image-630\" src=\"http:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/lpi-up_labodesde-fis_-quentinchevrier-1.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 720px) 720px\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" \/><figcaption>Learning Planet Institute &amp; UPCit\u00e9 - Labo des D\u00e9fis <strong>\u00a9<\/strong>QuentinChevrier<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"l%E2%80%99institut-des-d%C3%A9fis-%C3%A9volue-l%E2%80%99universit%C3%A9-alimente-la-cit%C3%A9-la-cit%C3%A9-doit-aussi-pouvoir-rentrer-dans-l%E2%80%99universit%C3%A9\">THE INSTITUT DES D\u00c9FIS EVOLVES: THE UNIVERSITY FEEDS THE CITY, THE CITY MUST ALSO BE ABLE TO ENTER THE UNIVERSITY<\/h2>\n<p>Adapting the strategy of Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9, the\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/u-paris.fr\/\">Challenge Institute<\/a> s new ambition is to create meeting points between researchers - who produce knowledge - and citizens - who may need it in their everyday lives.<\/p>\n<p>Edna Pezard is a researcher working on the sense of insecurity felt by vulnerable people (women, children, the elderly, the disabled, etc.) in urban spaces. Support from the Institut des D\u00e9fis will enable her to train local decision-makers (in arrondissement town halls) to integrate these issues into the design of public space (often designed by men), as well as to set up a participatory approach (exploratory walks, interviews, etc.) with residents of a Paris district, so that they can take part in the search for solutions to improve urban space.<\/p>\n<p>Among the planned deliverables, training for students at UPCit\u00e9's School of Urban Planning will enable them to integrate <em>in utero <\/em>this issue of urban insecurity so that they can design safer, more inclusive spaces for their future jobs.<\/p>\n<p>For example, by involving local agents in the research process, <strong>the university not only feeds society, but also benefits from its expertise<\/strong>. The Institut des D\u00e9fis has added a new dimension to its activities: a territorial and local dimension. The various IDD programs have been redesigned to fit in with community projects, in order to create for and with local citizens and decision-makers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card kg-card-hascaption\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter full-size wp-image-631\" src=\"http:\/\/www.learningplanetinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/lpi-up_forumre-inventonsuniversite-_-quentinchevrier.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 720px) 720px\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" \/><figcaption>Learning Planet Institute &amp; UPCit\u00e9 - Forum R\u00e9inventons Universit\u00e9 \u00a9QuentinChevrier<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"former-les-enseignant%C2%B7e%C2%B7s-pour-qu%E2%80%99ilselles-favorisent-l%E2%80%99%C3%A9mergence-de-projets-sur-le-d%C3%A9veloppement-durable-chez-leurs-%C3%A9tudiant%C2%B7e%C2%B7s\">TRAIN TEACHERS TO ENCOURAGE THE EMERGENCE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS AMONG THEIR STUDENTS<\/h2>\n<p>Within the University, and in addition to setting up programs, the Institut des D\u00e9fis has sensed a strong need to train teachers in the challenges of sustainable development. The IDD has therefore integrated a global approach to sustainability into its programs: it is by training teachers that they will then be able to train students in these issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A NEW TEACHING UNIT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=V691Sppf7eY\">\u00abECOLOGICAL TRANSITION AND SOCIETAL ISSUES\u00bb<\/a> BASED ON THE CREATION OF ECOLOGICAL PROJECTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/odf.u-paris.fr\/fr\/ue-libres-communes-1\/ue-transition-ecologique-et-enjeux-societaux-KQHW6STJ.html\">A free \u00abEcological Transition and Societal Challenges\u00bb (TEES) teaching unit (UE) <\/a>was created at Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9 by Ga\u00eblle Charron, accompanied by teams from the Institut des d\u00e9fis. The TESS EU was inspired by the ODD semester already launched at <a href=\"\/en\/news\/6046070413c1d439b6600a0c\/\">Learning Planet Institute for students in the Fronti\u00e8res du Vivant bachelor's degree program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to enable students to grasp the challenges of sustainable development and to create projects with a sustainable approach. Each of their projects must meet the sustainable development objectives defined by the UN.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/u-paris.fr\/quand-lecologie-anime-la-cour-des-grands-moulins\/\"> June 8th<\/a>, A hundred students enrolled in the first edition of the cross-disciplinary \u00abEcological Transition and Societal Issues\u00bb course presented their work on raising awareness of these issues.<br \/>\nIn addition to the teaching content it provided for the EU, the IDD helped Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9 teachers to base their learning on concrete projects (<em>project-base learning<\/em>), in addition to lectures.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-embed-card\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ecological transition: raising awareness and training\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V691Sppf7eY?feature=oembed\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n<p><strong>A SUMMER SCHOOL ON TEACHING SUSTAINABILITY, WHICH SERVES AS AN EXAMPLE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From mid-June to the end of July, with MakerLab, the IDD helped organize the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgschool.learningplanetinstitute.org\/en\">SDG Summer School <\/a>from the Learning Planet Institute, on climate-related health issues. The summer school welcomed 18 students from all over the world, in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsinghua.edu.cn\/en\/\">Tsinghua University<\/a> and the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unige.ch\/\">\u2018University of Geneva.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9 and the Learning Planet Institute, through the Institut des D\u00e9fis, organized a symposium on \u201cpedagogy for sustainability\u201d, dedicated to players in the teaching of transitions in higher education. The aim of the two-day event was not only to discover inspiring initiatives in the teaching of transitions through the sharing of innovative educational experiences, but also, via a pedagogical role-playing game, to collaboratively reflect on and imagine what could constitute a common core curriculum to operationalize the recommendations of the Jouzel-Abadi report. In fact, this symposium is part of the dynamic of the \u201c<em>Raising awareness and providing training on the challenges of the ecological transition and sustainable development in higher education<\/em>\u201dThis is one of the recommendations made by Jean Jouzel, climatologist and vice-president of the IPCC, who recommends that students in the first year of their bachelor's degree 100% be trained in sustainability issues within three years, regardless of the discipline they are studying. <strong>And in order to train students, we first need to train teachers.<\/strong> With this in mind, the Learning Planet Institute's summer school opened its doors to these teachers, so that they could observe their own ways of doing and learning, and pass them on to others.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-embed-card\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"fr\">Round-table discussion on the Jouzel report, feedback and ways to teach the transition on a massive scale in France. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lpiparis_?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@lpiparis_<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5LEtUeiReP\">pic.twitter.com\/5LEtUeiReP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>- Tuyet Tram DANG NGOC (@dntt) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dntt\/status\/1544686101339725826?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/figure>\n<p>After two years, the Institut des D\u00e9fis has closed its first chapter. Building on its experience, the program will continue to raise awareness of sustainable development issues, while adopting a more global approach. As a logical follow-up to this systemic approach, in September the IDD aims to launch various action programs on the\u2019<strong>inclusion<\/strong>.
