The initiative Teachers as Researchers aims at collectively exploring solutions to educational challenges through research on the European scale. In January 2023, Teachers as Researchersis also proposing 2 events at the LearningPlanet Festival (24-28 January, 2023).
Teachers as Researchers uses a methodology based on collaborative intelligence, writing and peer-reviewing via a collaborative research approach. This initiative builds activities to enhance a collaborative knowledge sharing and building process for all educators (teachers, school principals, designers, instructional coaches, etc…), from all educational sectors, on the European scale. These activities focus on 3 key pillars:
1) collaborative investigation of educational practices through the identification and description of common Challenges and Actions,
2) experimentation of these Actions, collection of observations of their impacts and results in Feedback reports
3) comparative analysis of several Feedbacks as Synthesis towards the resolution of the identified Challenge. Every stage of the process will also be Peer-reviewed by other educators.
Teachers as Researchers as part of the European Digital Education Hub
The European Digital Education Hub (EDEH) is an initiative of the European Commission, funded by the Erasmus+ programme (2021-2027) and operated by a consortium of organisations led by DAAD, under a service contract with the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
The Learning Planet Institute Teachers as Researchers team is actively contributing to this hub through the facilitation of monthly collaborative workshops about the best means to address the core challenges of the digital transformation of education. Read more in the European Education Area’s article.
Teachers as Researchers Weeks on the Hub
The European Digital Education Hub has now launched a series of “Teachers as Researchers Weeks” where educators can collaborate on finding answers to the challenges they experience in their day-to-day professional lives. Educators and users of the European Digital Hub in general can notably experience:
- Introduction and Q&A: participants will learn more about the methodology, its pedagogical goals, theoretical framework and practical aspects following an approximately 10-minute presentation. Afterwards, there would be a time dedicated to questions and answers and then a short activity to discover the resources and templates used in the TaR workshops and workgroups.
- Collabora(c)tive Workshops: using the Teachers as Researchers approach and methodology to experiment collaborative intelligence, writing and peer-review to inquire core challenges of digital education:
1. identify common educational challenges to address and shared hypotheses to test
2. develop and implement experimental protocols
3. report feedback on experimentation to the community
4. peer-review each-other’s work
How to join?
These workshops are dedicated to all the professionals working in digital education and facing challenges. They aim at engaging participants in the collaborative investigation and gathering of good educational practices with their peers.

Teachers as Researchers activities in the programme of the upcoming LearningPlanet Festival
On January 26, two Teachers as Researchers activities will be part of the LearningPlanet Festival programme:
- from 10:30 to 11:30 – Teachers as Researchers “Teach Meet”
a time and place for all actors of education to meet, introduce themselves, talk about their own educational contexts, share with the community the challenges they are facing and actions they are putting in place - from 15:00 to 17:00 – Teachers as Researchers “Collabora(c)tive Workshops”
the occasion to experiment the Teachers as Researchers approach and methodology based on collaborative intelligence, writing and peer-reviewing to inquire core challenges of digital education
Since its creation, the LearningPlanet Festival – 24-28 January, 2023 -, launched by the Learning Planet Institute and UNESCO, has been dedicated to the celebration of learning.
Important information:
In order to participate in this event on the hub (MSTeams), please register first to EDEH before January, 18th 2023: click on “Join the event” to register. Once on the hub, find the “Teachers as Researchers” Channel.
