Nurturing the next generation of young peacebuilders - in the context of the UNESCO Chair in Learning Sciences

With 183 ongoing conflicts around the world, the need for effective peace-building has never been more urgent. Reflecting this priority, 46,000 young people from around the world have identified “peace” as their top concern (Youth Talks, 2023). This powerful call urges us to rethink peace education, not only as a means of informing and facilitating dialogue, but also as a catalyst for empowering individuals and civil society to actively build peace. The debate will explore how peace education can evolve to create lasting positive peace by empowering individuals, especially young leaders, to be beneficiaries and co-creators, strategists and change-makers in conflict transformation. In collaboration with a range of leading experts, we will explore evolving strategies that turn young people into true peacemakers. By cultivating collaboration between international institutions, researchers, educators, grassroots practitioners and youth organizations, we aim to harness valuable insights to ensure that the transformative potential of peace education reaches all corners of society - nurturing a positive global culture of peace. With, among others,

  • Rina Alluri, UNESCO Chair in Peace Studies, assistant professor at’University of Innsbruck
  • Christopher Castle, Director, Division for Peace and Sustainable Development, Education Sector, UNESCO
  • Pavel Luksha, founder and director of Global Education Futures
  • Candice Mama, author
