Education & generative AI

What if education took back control of AI?

With : Ignacio Atal, Laetitia Atlani-Duault, Benjamin Bejbaum, Eric Cherel, Amodsen Chotia, Laura Head, Etienne Karlen, Chahab Nastar, Elie Rotenberg, Jean-Marc Sevin, Stella Vanne

From Gutenberg's press in the 15th century, to the industrial revolution in the 18th century, to the development of search engines at the end of the 20th century - all these upheavals have radically transformed society and our access to knowledge. Today, the arrival of generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT) is forcing us to re-examine our learning models. During this study day, we propose to explore how to learn with AI, how to learn AI literacy, and how to learn in the AI era.
Without limiting ourselves to this, we propose to reflect on the following issues:

  • The positive potential and negative risks of AI for education
  • The different ways AI can be used in education (viz. intelligent tutors like khanmigo, success dashboards, cf. ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education, UNESCO)
  • Ethical and responsible integration of AI in education
  • The role of teachers and learners
  • AI education for all, and social and literacy divides
  • How to prepare learners to understand and use AI in their future lives
  • Education with AI, not against it: what potential for improving learning methods and helping learners develop key skills for tomorrow's world?
  • What are the cognitive consequences of dissolving the boundaries between human-machine interaction and human-human interaction in the digital medium?
