Masterclass: Science beyond the machine age? with Johannes Jäger

Masterclass - EURIP

Masterclass: Science beyond the machine age? with Johannes Jäger, independent philosopher, researcher and educator, Associate Professor, Complexity Science Hub, Vienna, Austria The machine age, modernity, is coming to an end. Our dream of total control over our world is collapsing. If there's one lesson to be learned from the complexity science revolution, it's this: every time we intervene in these systems, there are unforeseen consequences. We are currently experiencing a whole series of such consequences, which are coming together in a crisis of crises - a metacrisis - made up of a combination of societal, ecological, economic and psychological emergencies. In this talk, I will present some of my thoughts on what the world will be like when we no longer believe that it is a machine, a mechanism, to be controlled and exploited. And I'll discuss a vision for a science that adapts to this era beyond the machine, a science that contributes to a truly sustainable and participatory future for humanity on this planet. -- This masterclass program is organized by the EURIP Graduate School (École Universitaire de Recherche Interdisciplinaire de Paris). Located at the Learning Planet Institute, in collaboration with Université Paris Cité, it brings together the AIRE (Approaches to Interdisciplinary Research and Education) Master's program and the FIRE (Frontières de l'Innovation en Recherche et Éducation) doctoral school. EURIP welcomes post-graduate students and early-career researchers wishing to tackle global challenges in sustainability and planetary health through innovative interdisciplinary approaches.
