Teaching sustainability issues at Université Paris Cité“ conference”

The issues of planetary and social sustainability are naturally at the heart of the concerns of the University's students. It is essential to raise awareness, train and equip all players in society to deal with these issues, and to do so as early as possible, so that they can become aware, positive and enlightened players, capable of taking up the local and global challenges they will have to face. This conviction is supported by’ad last October on the implementation of the report's recommendations Jouzel/Abbadie to MESRI, from the european commission proposal on education for sustainability, and the high expectations of the academic world, particularly students, on this subject, as evidenced by the manifesto Pour un Réveil Écologique, and the national consultation of the Réseau Étudiant pour une Société Écologique et Solidaire (RESES).

Numerous players within our establishment are involved in initiatives that contribute to training in sustainability issues, and which deserve to be scaled up to impact a larger number of learners. These projects can be a source of inspiration for other players wishing to implement similar training programs. At the same time, teaching staff may find it difficult to find the time to invest in teaching about the ecological transition, and may be afraid to take the plunge without their usual legitimacy. However, specific formats exist for experimenting and proposing relevant content with modest timetable volumes.

The Challenge Institute (- led by Université Paris Cité / Learning Planet Institute) is organizing the next Thursday, July 6, an event dedicated to teaching sustainability issues at Université Paris Cité. The entire university community is invited to come together to present or discover inspiring training initiatives, share practices and spend a convivial moment. Our aim is to contribute to the dissemination of what works, to help those who are exploring different ways of training learners to grasp the challenges of sustainability, and to collaborate on possible solutions. This event is supported by a conference organized by the Labos 1poin5 collective “Teaching Ecological and Social Transitions in Higher Education”.

Pedagogy will be at the heart of the discussions, to understand how to adapt teaching methods to ensure that learners acquire a common base of knowledge and skills in all fields of study. Concrete examples of courses will be presented, highlighting active and collaborative methods, project-based learning and the use of adapted tools.

The training of teaching staff is also a key issue, as it is essential for the dissemination of these practices. We would like to discuss and present various training schemes to enable teaching teams to integrate sustainability issues into their teaching models.

Finally, we would like to discuss student engagement and the various frameworks that the university has or could develop to support sustainability initiatives, including partnerships with local organizations and citizen service programs.

We are calling on the entire university community to contribute to this day. Here you will find a registration form for the symposium, as well as the opportunity to submit a presentation, workshop or poster. Through this event, we hope to bring together all the players in our establishment

  • As far as presentations are concerned, it could be a course (UE, courses, workshops, etc.) or even a complete training program that you'd like to highlight, as long as it deals with one or more sustainability issues. It can also be a student project (association, event, training course, etc.).
  • Your project can also be presented as a poster to be displayed during a dedicated session.
  • The afternoon will be devoted to pedagogical workshops. Don't hesitate to send us your suggestions for activities that we can incorporate into the program.

Seminar objectives :

  • Discover innovative teaching formats and tools for training in the challenges of transition
