Tell me why I should (not) take your advice: The role of explainable AI in learner and educator decision-making

DescriptionExplainable artificial intelligence (XAI) has proven its influence on learner acceptance and adoption of learning recommendations. The goal of XAI in education, however, is not to “justify” the learning recommendation that an AI model generates, but rather to clarify for the learner and educator the inner workings of the model, in a way that enables them to make an informed decision about accepting, modifying, or even rejecting the recommendation. In this webinar, we'll look at the collaborative decision-making process between education stakeholders (namely educators and learners) and AI, focusing on how explainable recommendations can enable learners to have more influence over learning decisions, and more control over the parameters AI models use to personalize a learning recommendation for them. An example of the implementation of these concepts will be presented from our recent research in the field of vocational education and training. L‘guest expertHasan Abu-rasheed is a research associate and doctoral researcher at the University of Siegen, Germany. Drawing on his teaching experience and background in computer science and mechatronics engineering, he has positioned his research in the fields of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) and AI in education (AIED). His main focus is on the development of Explainable AI Approaches (XAI) to help education stakeholders better master the decision-making process. To this end, it uses a range of technologies, including knowledge graphs, recommender systems and conversational agents (Chatbots), to develop explainable decision support systems for learners and educators.Plan10.45 - 11.00 : The presenter settles in while participants begin to log in 11.00 - 11.05: Welcome and introductory speeches 11.05 - 11.45: Presentation by Hasan 11.45 - 11.55: Questions and exchanges 11.55 - 12.00: Conclusion and feedbackHow to participate1- Register with EDEH: I can join the Hub here before December 16!The Hub (EDEH) is an MSTeams group.
