Labs & Expertise

    R&D Serving Learning Transitions

R&D brings together the Institute’s cross-cutting research and development activities.

With more than 20 years of expertise in education research, a dedicated research unit, 36 in-house researchers and an average of 100 PhD candidates per year, it delivers rigorous scientific methods and fuels the flagship initiatives of our Learning Planet Academy. Our work focuses in particular on learning transitions (transitions in learning and learning for transitions), the role of AI, impact evaluation, and co-construction with youth.

Learning powered by digital technologies and AI

As experts in technology for education, we design and deploy the digital tools that support our Learning Planet Academy, experiment with innovative AI-driven solutions, and build bridges with European research and development projects in pedagogy and citizen science in which we are actively involved.

The Learning Planet Institute also develops and scales innovative digital tools that facilitate learning and transformation. Our ambition? To give everyone the means to learn — including about themselves — to conduct research, and to act together.

Global learning, co-created with and for young people

Our international programmes are not imposed; they are co-constructed with those most concerned: young people themselves.

They are directly and continuously aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Education 2030 Agenda. Each of our international programmes contributes to SDG 4: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

Emerging projects: accelerating the possibilities

At the heart of the Learning Planet Institute ecosystem, our emerging projects are a living laboratory for our mission of social and educational transformation.

The result is a unique synergy between our three pillars of expertise: the scientific rigour of our Research division, the mobilising power of our international network and the agility of our Digital & AI solutions.

By combining this expertise, we are incubating innovative initiatives capable of meeting the complex challenges of the SDGs and shaping the future of learning through collective intelligence.
