Despite spectacular progress in survival, nutrition and education in recent decades, today's children face an uncertain future. Climate change, environmental degradation, population migration, conflict, pervasive inequality and abusive trade practices endanger the health and future of children everywhere. In 2015, countries around the world agreed to work towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet, while almost five years have passed since this decision, few countries have made significant progress in this regard. This Commission calls for children aged 0-18 to be placed at the center of the SDGs, that is, at the heart of the concept of sustainability and our shared human adventure. It is essential that governments harness cross-sectoral coalitions to overcome existing ecological and commercial pressures and ensure that children can enjoy their rights today and a sustainable planet in the years to come.
