The Learning Planet Institute, Université Paris Cité and their partners in the Crowd4SDG European research project are launching their third call for projects around climate change and climate justice. Contribute to this challenge by answering the call before September 30, 2022!
Climate change affects us all, but not in the same way. It is likely to lead to inequalities within and between nations, as well as between present and future generations. Climate justice is a term used to define global warming as an ethical and political issue, rather than one that is purely environmental or physical in nature.
Crowd4SDG is working to mitigate this phenomenon. This three-year Horizon 2020 research and innovation action encourages citizen science projects addressing climate change-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through its third call for #Open17ClimateJustice projects focusing on SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), participants are invited to submit their ideas on how to develop a project that addresses these SDGs using crowdsourcing (information gathered or actions taken by a large group of ordinary citizens), such as:
- Involving vulnerable groups in climate-related discussions and decision-making
- Public services and government responsiveness for climate resilience
- Measuring access to environmental justice
- Measuring access to environmental information and combating misinformation
- Impacts of climate change, conflict, displacement and insecurity
Why get involved?
Once the call for projects has closed, the #Open17ClimateJustice challenge will offer the 50 selected applicants a five-week interactive online coaching program tailored to global innovators, to help them connect and transform good ideas into viable social innovation projects and prototypes. Participants completing this phase will receive a certificate.
The most promising teams and projects will take part in an intensive challenge-based online innovation workshop, led by the project member, CERN IdeaSquare. During this workshop, teams will learn how to build a working prototype for their project and connect with communities and social innovation experts who can help them launch and support their project.
The two best teams selected by a jury will be invited to Geneva to present their project in person to potential UN partner organizations and NGOs, as well as impact investors, at the international conference “Geneva Trialogue”.
Conditions of eligibility
The challenge is open to anyone worldwide. Applicants must be aged 16 or over. Applications must be written in English, and participants must have a good command of written and spoken English.

What is Crowd4SDG?
This Open17 challenge is supported by Crowd4SDG, a three-year Horizon 2020 research and innovation action supported by the European Commission's Science with and for Society (SwafS) program.
Led by a consortium of 6 partners(UNIGE, CERN, CPISC, Politecnico di Milano, UNITAR, - led by Université Paris Cité) and their associated research laboratories(Citizen Cyberlab, Instituto de Investigación en Inteligencia Artificial, Learning Planet Institute), Crowd4SDG promotes citizen science to address the SDGs, with a focus on climate action, through an innovation cycle called GEAR (Gather, Evaluate, Accelerate, Refine).
