Mitsuke, a small town in Niigata Prefecture, is a municipality that is actively engaged in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and, as part of a Japanese government initiative to foster collaboration with local authorities, has been selected as an “SDG Future City” by the Japanese Prime Minister's Office in 2019. This selection rewards the city's efforts in environmentally-friendly urban development, disaster risk mitigation and the integration of the SDGs into public policy.
NUT developed the joint project with the city to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among the city's elementary school students to contribute to an understanding of global challenges, while nurturing logical thinking.
