The merits and risks of evaluation

The unthinkable aspects and components of the education system that the health crisis has brought into sharp focus are the subject of a systematic review by the Digital University of Education.

During the period of confinement, the question of student assessment was largely marginalized in the conception of “pedagogical continuity”, while teachers had to resolve day after day to reinvent the modalities and purposes of assessment in order to help and guide their students.

Assessment and measurement tools provide the data needed by institutions and teachers to “organize” learning: diagnose, train, measure, classify, certify, etc. In this way, assessment data can enlighten teachers about the unobservable aspect of any learning activity. What's more, could assessment not act as a structuring axis for a teaching sequence, to help students better master the issues and objectives at stake?

On Wednesday June 17, Natacha Duroisin, a researcher at the’University of Mons Teacher Training School, We'll take a look at some of the evaluation practices imagined by teachers during periods of confinement, and offer some food for thought on how to take advantage of this situation to (re)think evaluation beyond confinement. Live at 7pm on Youtube Live or Facebook Live.
