EDITO

by Ange Ansour, Director of Savanturiers - École de la recherche

Neither the scientific community nor the public authorities can guarantee that the next school year will be free of the COVID-19 epidemic. The extraordinary situation we're experiencing today may well become entrenched over time. So, faced with an accumulation of material, pedagogical and institutional uncertainties, how can we best support our teams, families and students? Will the over-investment of teachers and parents stand the test of time and economic insecurity? The risks of student fatigue, disengagement and suffering are bound to increase in such a scenario.

Indeed, the current crisis is revealing the strengths and weaknesses of our education system. The need for training and support for teachers and the entire educational community in the service of students is as acute as ever.

As we prepare for the start of the new school year in September 2020, we'll be continuing our usual work of producing resources around education through research and scholarly projects.
Likewise, we are maintaining the weekly Flash Info with a few adjustments: scientific activities and an extended scientific watch will be maintained, but the challenges will be suspended due to the return to school. The success of these challenges was guaranteed by the exemplary collaboration between teachers, scientists and CRI teams. This co-laboratory has proved its effectiveness in times of crisis as in ordinary times, and will continue to act and produce in the service of student success.
This set of challenges and activities can be put to good use in schools both during periods of school intermittency and during the normal school year.

Finally, starting the week of May 25, we'll be launching a series of science mediation webinars on education and the human and social sciences, as part of the Sciences en Live.
Our first appointment is on Wednesday May 27 with Filippo Pirone and Romain Delès, lecturers at the University of Bordeaux, on the subject of’home school survey in partnership with Savanturiers.
