Direct reflections from Zineb, Valentina and Jess (YxY community organizers)
Our first YouthXYouth (Youth by Youth) event was a resounding success! For 3 days, we catalyzed a militant movement for education, led by young people and supported by adults:
- 95 sessions with 470 participants
- 120 selected YxY activists from 50 countries
- 20 YxY animators: young facilitators who organize daily “cafés”, i.e. in-depth dialogue sessions with a small group of YxY activists.
- 60 co-creators and partners
Now it's time to take the next step: Growing this movement, together. Let's choose to collaborate and co-create solutions for young people around the world.
You can maintain the flow of energy and co-creation through the following actions:
For those of you who took part: Give us your feedback - ICI - What have we done well? What can we do better? We need your feedback to learn and grow!
Make the most of our YxY resources
Subscribe to our Youtube channel - If you'd like us to add videos, channels you recommend and playlists you'd like to see in the future, please share them with us by sending an e-mail to atyouthxyouthactivists@gmail.com.
Sign our petition ICI to ask each ministry of education to ensure that a youth council guides and decides on the future of education. Share this petition with EVERYONE you know and ask them to sign it. Use the petition as a conversation starter. Start a dialogue about young people's right to decide on their education, then invite them to sign the petition.
Share the donation link ICI with potential friends, family and donors who can support this movement. Funds will be used to support 3 priority areas:
Paying people (including YxY hosts, co-creators, coaches and organizers) for the time they devote to YxY activists and future experiences.
Buy better technological tools for YxY's communications, our community center, our website and the organization of future experiences (so we don't have any more Zoom links that get lost in cyberspace...) - and improve theinternet connexion for any YxY activist who needs it (so that nobody's internet can prevent them from fully contributing to this community as they wish)
Support YxY projects. We want to be able to give young people access to the resources they need, either by supporting them directly, or by putting them in touch with the right partners and funders.
Finally, if you'd like to talk more about your involvement in this movement and the ideas you have for it, we'd love to hear from you! You can e-mail Zineb at zineb.mouhyi@gmail.com to make an appointment. In the words of our host Olatomiwa Olusesi, “The best time to plant a mahogany tree was 50 years ago, because it takes 50 years for it to grow. So the second best time to plant a mahogany tree is today, so we can see the seeds we've planted in 50 years.”
The seeds of our young community have been sown, and now it's time to water them so they can take root in the soil of our society.
We hope to continue watering the seeds we plant together!
