Citizen science can contribute effectively to progress towards and monitoring of the SDG targets and indicators. At the same time, the Agenda 2030 repeatedly refers to children and young people as 'critical agents of change”. Through theCrowd4SDG program, the’Université de Paris, the Learning Planet Institute and their partners are mobilizing young people for climate action and will be present at the #LearningPlanet Festival for 2 sessions: a presentation on Monday January 24 at 10:30 am CET and an interactive workshop with participants who have been selected from the program on Saturday January 29 at 1 pm CET.
How can we measure the differentiated impacts of disasters on women and men? How can we assess women's vulnerability to the effects of climate change on natural resources? How can we improve data on women's participation in environmental management? These are just some of the questions to which the participants selected for the Crowd4SDG program and grouped into teams are attempting to find solutions by transforming good ideas into viable social innovation projects and prototypes.
This initiative follows a robust innovation cycle called GEAR (Gather, Evaluate, Accelerate, Refine) that began with an online selection and coaching of citizen-generated ideas on climate and gender issues in autumn 2021. The most promising projects are currently being accelerated as part of the challenge-based innovation workshop organized by IdeaSquare at CERN.
Pitch on Monday, January 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. CET
Crowd4SDG will be presented by program coordinator François Grey at the “#LearningPlanet World Tour session, organized on International Education Day, bringing together #LearningPlanet community partners from around the world for a dynamic conversation about their work and the activities taking place during Festival week.

Workshop Saturday, January 29, 1-3pm (CET)
In this workshop “Mobilizing young people for climate action: Citizen Science and Innovation in Monitoring and Achieving the SDGs”, participants will explore the GEAR cycle and hear from transdisciplinary student teams who have successfully participated in the Crowd4SDG program. They are currently fine-tuning the implementation of their citizen science projects to tackle the SDGs in their local communities. This interactive workshop aims to bring together participants' expertise to explore ways in which young people can learn to become innovators for the SDGs, and opportunities for scaling up, and help student teams move their projects towards deployment.

The Crowd4SDG consortium (UNIGE, CERN, CSIC, IIIA, Politecnico di Milano, UNITAR, Université de Paris and Learning Planet Institute) promotes citizen science in the service of the SDGs, with a focus on climate action. The aim of this EU-funded project is to assess the usefulness of the practical innovations developed by the teams, and to research and investigate how AI applications can enhance and provide effective citizen monitoring of the SDG targets and indicators.
The #LearningPlanet festival celebrates International Education Day on January 24. For this third edition, the Festival offers a rich program of online and local activities from January 22 to 29, 2022, and is based on the need to learn how to take care of ourselves, others and the planet by fostering a culture of hope, collective commitment and sustainability. The Festival brings together a diverse community of passionate learners of all ages and from all countries - young people, teachers, educators, artists, scientists, social entrepreneurs, policymakers and more - to share ideas and experiences, showcase inspiring solutions and feel empowered to come together around common challenges.
