Visit Learning Planet Youth Design Challenge, initiated by the Learning Planet Institute, is an intergenerational, global movement that aims to create a new form of university adapted to planetary transitions. A call to young people to co-design and build, with them, the future of global learning.
95 students from 31 countries took part in the first edition (2023-2024) ; 20 finalists were supported in realizing their ideas. Pearl Perumal, South Africa, won 1st place for her project KinspirED, which weaves together indigenous wisdoms for future well-being: “I took part in the Youth Design Challenge because I totally believe in the vision of inviting young people to sit at the table to co-create and co-design materials and learning programs for a sustainable society and work.”.
The new edition of Learning Planet Youth Design Challenge (2024-2025) invites students aged between 15 and 26 from all over the world to propose programs and learning concepts aimed at creating sustainable, prosperous universities committed to the future. This year, the Challenge aims to collect more than 500 ideas from young people around the world on the theme of commitment (community involvement, inclusion, social justice and peacebuilding), fulfillment (well-being, self-fulfilment and socio-emotional development) and sustainability (global health and the regenerative economy). Find out more about the themes.
An international jury - made up of personalities from universities (such as, Peter Schlosser, Vice-president and Vice-provost of Global Futures to the Arizona State University), youth networks and social enterprises - will select 12 finalists. The first two winners will receive price of up to USD 1,000; all will benefit from training courses, in mentoring, to help them refine their proposals, build a network and familiarize themselves with fund-raising techniques to support their projects.
