What lessons from 2020 will you take with you into 2021?
2020 has been a year of review and reflection, highlighting the many shortcomings of our existence. However, the most glaring one is that, despite our digital connection, we are disconnected from ourselves, from others and from our environment, and this fragmentation has gradually seeped into our culture, our mentalities, our politics, our lifestyles and so on. One of the biggest obstacles to tackling today's major challenges, which are complex, interconnected and emergent in nature, is that our usual tools for responding to them are specialized, focused and operate in silos. Resonating with Jeffrey Walker's words, “Solving the world's greatest problems requires ensembles, not soloists”, CAN aspires to be an artistic ensemble of change-makers, bringing together people from a myriad of backgrounds and pooling their perspectives to achieve common goals. Another valuable lesson to be learned from this civilizational crossroads is that there is a pressing need to reimagine tomorrow. It is therefore essential to learn, unlearn and relearn obsolete narratives in order to find innovative solutions.
Why celebrate learning?
At RCA, we believe that education is the technology that shapes evolution, and that the process of consuming education, i.e. learning, becomes not only a necessity but also a North Star that guides us to a better tomorrow. Learning is innate, can be acquired through experience or teaching, and focuses on the acquisition and improvement of skills, behavior, values and understanding. It is lifelong, humbling and unifying in the sense that it gives all humanity a common goal: the constant quest for improvement.
What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming #LP festival?
Any opportunity to learn from individuals and organizations doing worthwhile work to advance and shape education is valuable. The Planet Learning Festival is a unique opportunity that brings together various 'learning” actors from different parts of the world with offers of events, discussions, dialogues, etc. despite the logistical constraints of a virtual festival. CAN is delighted to research, explore, collaborate and co-create with such active players, similar and different, within the sector.
