Ryadh SALLEM

On June 27, on the Paris campus of the Learning Planet Institute and as part of its "Bâtisseurs de Récits" project, fourteen students from the SEGPA section of the collège Jean Vilar from Grigny (Essonne) were able to exchange views with Ryadh Sallem, athlete in contention for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The morning at the Institute began with a meeting with journalists (Africulture, Mon Paris FM, Fréquence Paris Plurielle, and director Solange Bestaoui) to share their advice and experience with the teenagers.. Preparatory workshops (storytelling and journalistic techniques), held since last May, had also enabled the schoolchildren to prepare and sharpen their questions.

In order to breaking a spiral of academic and social failure, Grigny, poorest city in mainland France, collaborates with the Learning Planet Institute to design and experiment with innovative and sustainable educational solutions, to train and lead the community of its students and those involved in education and youth.

As the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, in this year of centenary of the Rights of the Child, and the success of his project Builders of Possibilities, Learning Planet Institute is committed to Storybuilders, its new project, to give a voice to the young people of Grignois.

“Bringing the Olympics to Grigny, involving these schoolchildren in such a world-class event, means including these young people, enabling them to meet inspiring personalities, to believe more in their dreams and hopes, to open up a field of possibilities... This project transcends social and cultural barriers to weave deep bonds of exchange and mutual understanding”.” enthuses Laurence Cussac, Youth Director.

Appointment made

  • Next September, for a new meeting between young people from Grigny and Olympic athletes hoping to win medals
  • In November, on the occasion of the centenary of the Rights of the Child, we'll be broadcasting the written stories and podcasts made with Jean Vilar schoolchildren

Story Builders is supported by Youth Department of the Learning Planet Institute, in partnership with Ville de Grigny - Cité Éducative de Grigny, the Writing Foundation, the Fondation Engagement Médias pour les Jeunes and the British Council.
