Editorial for the Global Coalition for the Education of january 2024 by François Taddei, Chairman of the Institut Planète Apprentissage

Dear members,

In an ever-changing world, lifelong learning is the key to adaptability and a human right, as proposed by the Institut de l'Informatique et de la Recherche.’UNESCOfor lifelong learning. We need to learn how to learn and be able to choose what we learn and how we learn it, with “Nothing about us, without us”It is essential to provide opportunities for learning to care for oneself, others and the planet. It's essential to provide opportunities to learn how to care for ourselves, others and the planet. In this way, we foster our capacity to become “good citizens".“citizens ofthe planet”, i.e. citizens of the world capable of respecting the limits of our planet and taking care of our planetary heritage.

Together, we must work for the individual and collective fulfillment of future generations - matching learning needs with available expertise to create vibrant learning communities, and turning shared learning needs into a resource through the research and co-creation of new solutions.

Today's institutions are adapting too slowly to enable learners of all ages to meet the challenges of our time - we need to create open-source R&D resources for the evolution of lifelong learning. Here, we can share the best tools, methods and content for learning about our rapidly changing landscape, focusing research on the multiple dimensions of “learning transitions”, the transitions of learners, learning and the structures that govern our lives.

Imagine if we could co-create an AI-powered, internationally-supported institution designed with learners in mind - with the mission of enabling all lifelong learners to become learning planetary citizens, capable of finding purpose while tackling the challenges of our time. This “planetarian university” would not only foster effective learning about how to care for ourselves, others and the planet, but learners would co-create the R&D and open learning ecosystems needed to enable these transitions.

Members of the Global Coalition for Education, I hope these dreams will become reality soon enough to influence the transitions our planet so desperately needs. I know that we share the same values and missions, and that together we can explore the future of lifelong learning.
