The proliferation of ecological, security and democratic crises around the world in 2024 has reinforced our profound conviction that the keys to a desirable future must be handed over to young people! Indeed, now more than ever, it's urgent to finally give them the means to act and change the game.
We're not the only ones who believe in the power of youth to bring about change. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, recently declared: «Young people are leading the charge for urgent action. Their creativity, resilience and vision are essential for a more sustainable, peaceful and just future for all.». Declarations, but also strong political acts: last September, at the 79th UN General Assembly, member states adopted the Pact for the future which aims, in particular, to strengthen the real participation of young people on a national and international scale.
All these signals confirm the direction we have already taken (see our 2023/2024 annual report) and encourage us to persevere in our mission, our actions and our projects, notably through the large-scale collaborations we are initiating, such as with the’United Nations University, or that we are consolidating, as with the’UNESCO. By 2025, the Learning Planet Institute will work alongside young people to ensure that they have a seat at every table where decisions affecting them are made. We will continue to work with children, teenagers and students to rethink tomorrow's education and university, by and for young people, to enable them to acquire and develop the skills they need to meet current and future challenges,
not the best students in the world,
but the best students in the world.
To anxiety, we oppose hope, which I invite you to share at the 6th edition of the International Festival LearningPlanet which will take place from January 23 to 25, 2025, around International Education Day.
Best wishes to you and yours in the New Year!
François Taddei
President, Learning Planet Institute
