The Learning Planet Institute will host the SDG Olympiad 2024 finals in Paris from September 25th to 26th!
Inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the principle of “leave no one behind,” the SDG Olympiad 2024 is a dynamic and decentralized global competition. Each participating university hosts its own SDG Summer School or equivalent event focused on sustainable development, empowering students to develop innovative solutions to pressing environmental and health challenges.
How It Works:
- Local Participation: Universities manage their own SDG events, with local juries evaluating and selecting the best teams based on available infrastructure and resources.
- Evaluation Criteria: Projects are assessed on their potential to produce SDG-relevant data, generate social and environmental impact, and effectively utilize Open-Science tools (software, hardware, open data, or participatory methodologies). Additional criteria include novelty, relevance, feasibility, prototype development, and presentation skills.
Global Prizes:
The top teams from each university will compete for bronze, silver, and gold medals at the prestigious Paris Award Ceremony on September 26, immediately following the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Winners will gain global exposure and potential support for their solutions.
Special Awards:
The SDG Olympiad also honors other promising initiatives through seven Special Awards categories, encouraging the use of innovative technologies and methodologies to advance the 2030 Agenda.
Global Finals:
The selected teams will compete for Global Prizes and Special Awards on September 25 and 26 at the Learning Planet Institute, Paris.
