WeLearn

Artificial intelligence for sustainable development education

Forms-2

Developed by the Learning Planet Institute and supported as part of the France 2030 TEDS (ANR-17-NCUN-0016), WeLearn is a learning platform powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and designed to facilitate education for objectives
sustainable development (SDGs) in higher education.

Cutting-edge technology, accessible to all

WeLearn relies on the latest advances in AI.

  • Language models: these are programs capable of understanding and generating text in a natural way, as in a human conversation.
  • Intelligent databases: store and quickly retrieve relevant information from millions of documents
  • Recommendation systems: similar to those used by streaming platforms, they suggest the content best suited to your needs.

These technologies are combined in innovative ways to create truly useful educational features, designed around the concrete needs of teachers and learners, while promoting sober and responsible AI.

Easy access to sustainability resources

WeLearn provides a huge library of documents related to the SDGs. These resources are carefully selected according to three key criteria

1/ Accessibility: free, open-access resources only

2/ Reliability: scientific articles, popular content, reports from recognized institutions, validated teaching aids

3/ Relevance: only documents genuinely linked to the SDGs are selected

To automatically identify relevant resources, we have developed a multilingual classification system to determine whether a text deals with one of the 17 SDGs.

Thanks to this database, WeLearn offers an intelligent search engine: you formulate your question or need in “natural” language and the system suggests a list of documents whose content best matches your search. You can then refine your search by selecting the SDOs of particular interest to you.

Reliable answers for learners

WeLearn integrates a chatbot to answer your questions about sustainable development.

Unlike other AI tools, which can sometimes invent information, WeLearn relies solely on its database of verified resources.

Each answer provided by AI is accompanied by its source, allowing you to verify the information and quickly deepen your knowledge with reliable content tailored to your area of interest.

Course creation for teachers

This innovative feature uses a multi-agent AI system (several “intelligences” working together, each with its own expertise) to help you build your course program.

WeLearn automatically enriches your starting base with relevant resources from its library, based on just a few pieces of information about your course and your reference documents.

These elements are then analyzed by three complementary AI agents:

1/ A “university professor”: for academic rigor

2/ A “sustainable development expert”: for thematic relevance

3/ A “pedagogical engineer”: for consistency and effectiveness in teaching

The generated program contains

  • A clear description of the course
  • Well-defined learning objectives
  • Expected results for students
  • The skills they will develop

WeLearn ensures that all these elements are correctly formulated and pedagogically coherent, saving you precious time in preparing your lessons.

They testify

  • It's easy to find resources
  • The direct link with qualified ODD resources is a real advantage
  • We feel a huge potential to help
  • I think it's great, especially for syllabuses.
  • If you have a syllabus proposal in just one question, it's a real help for teachers
  • I want to delve even deeper into the functionalities
  • WeLearn proposes other questions on the same subject; that's good!

At the end of 2024, the Learning Planet Institute and the UVED Foundation have been awarded €8 million in funding over 4 years by France 2030 for their joint project Transition Écologique pour un Développement Soutenable (TEDS). Supported by CY Cergy Paris Université and financed by’French National Research Agency (ANR), this project aims to train students and teachers for the ecological transition by combining the TEDS educational resource center (piloted by the UVED Foundation) with WeLearn, the Learning Planet Institute's AI.
