Atlas of Peaceful Futures Practices

A practitioner's guide to a civilization based on peace

This Atlas is the result of the Peaceful Futures program launched jointly by the Institut Planète éducative and Global Education Futures, in agreement with’UNESCO. Peaceful Futures aims to train and empower hundreds of young leaders worldwide, fostering true peacemakers, with the support of leading institutional and field partners. At the heart of this collaboration is a profound recognition that the Planet Learning Institute aims to transform the way we learn and teach, so that every learner becomes an agent of change committed to well-being, peace, democracy, equity and sustainability. The Planet Learning Institute's commitment to reinventing learning for all ages in order to collectively shape better futures aligns naturally with the peace-building imperative. Since its inception in 2006, the Institute has focused on youth empowerment and transformative education. In March 2025, it became the United Nations University (UNU) center for the future of learning with young people. Peaceful Futures can thus benefit from a series of other activities that mobilize thousands of young change-makers already involved in education, rights, health and the environment, such as the Youth Design Challenge, Re-Model UN, the Youth Fellows network, etc. All these areas are intimately linked to peace-building work. The conviction that young people are not simply beneficiaries of peace education, but active co-creators of a peaceful future, is at the heart of the Peaceful Futures program and this Atlas of Peace Practices. This youth-centered approach reflects the Planet Learning Institute's broader commitment to learner action and participatory, intergenerational approaches to global challenges.
