Manifesto for a global mission for the University

This manifesto proposes a planetary mission for universities, an evolution from guardians of knowledge to weavers of links, so that they can implement transdisciplinary solutions to conserve commons and cultivate inclusive models of learning and governance.

We call on universities to adopt an ethic of “weaving”, linking ecosystems that integrate different forms of
of intelligence (human, artificial and beyond), linking generations and shaping ethical leaders at a global level. The emergence of artificial intelligence in general (AIG), and the continuing crisis of trust - on all fronts - urge us to build a new model based on regenerative research, democratic co-creation and a culture of care - both towards individuals and towards planetary systems.

Many institutional barriers persist around the world, (disciplines and subjects taught in silos, reductive indicators, political recuperation) but we choose here to highlight institutions that are, on the contrary, engaged in a profound transformation.

We conclude this manifesto with a call to policy-makers, funders, academic leaders and learners themselves to co-create a higher education capable of meeting the challenges of our common future.
