April Seminar 1 1 "AI and self-governance" Research workshop

By invitation only

Short description of the workshop

With the skills and experience to organise and make their own decisions, the globe’s communities gain an essential tool for political and economic empowerment. But spreading the values and practices associated with small-scale, everyday democracy is challenging for reasons of scale, resources, and research into the basic elements of self-governance training.

How can AI help humans collaborate to transform collective decision-making? This workshop tackles a new dimension by exploring how AI can scale collective action by facilitating the spread of beneficial practices and useful tools. During this workshop, we will bring together experts from various backgrounds to co-design a vision on the role of AI and self-governance in shaping the future of self- and group-directed learning and education.

The workshop consists of three interconnected phases based on the principles and methodologies of human-centered design, participatory design, and co-design: establishing a common understanding, identifying research objectives and designing research prototypes.

This workshop is part of a series on AI in learning organized by the UR LT. The previous workshops have explored the topics “Ethics of AI” (January 2024) and “AI for Collective Intelligence” (December 2024).
