In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Learning Planet Institute and its partners wanted to evaluate how Higher Education institutions were engaging with communities and supporting them in their response to local challenges, and upskill students and staff in enabling and leading “Digital Action” (citizen science, hackathons and makeathons) with the community.

The EU-funded ECS (European Citizen Science) project is looking to create a network of 28 Citizen Science Ambassadors (EU-27 + the UK) to support its activities, raise awareness about citizen science and spread and strengthen citizen science in Europe.

In April of 2022, the Learning Planet Institute convened 35 experts, including researchers, entrepreneurs, students, and teachers for a workshop on collective intelligence and learning. They identified themes, challenges and potential solutions on intersection of the 2 domains and collaboratively wrote an extended opinion piece, now published in the journal Human Computation.
