By blending research and education, the Learning Planet Institute pursues innovative approaches to learning through projects, research and social engagement in a way that puts students at the centre of their own learning experience.
The Learning Planet Institute’s programme Savanturiers - École de la recherche helps classes ranging from preschool through high school to design and carry out research projects, while through the Université de Paris we offer Bachelor’s through PhD and lifelong-learning degrees.
The Frontiers of Life Sciences Bachelor’s degree is aimed at students who are interested in the sciences in general, and the life sciences in particular. If you are a high school student who:
then this is the programme for you. We foster diversity in the programme by welcoming students from all backgrounds. Prospective students are admitted based on a two-step process: first, their applications must be selected by the admissions team, then chosen candidates will sit for an interview. There are 30 places available in the first-year class.
Every year, the AIRE Master’s welcomes around 60 students from all over the world with diverse academic backgrounds in the learning sciences, IT, psychology, economics, design, medicine, human sciences, biology, cognitive science – the list goes on. It’s this rich diversity that makes the programme so extraordinary, offering an education experience that is impactful, non-hierarchical and collaborative.
Prior professional experience is also taken into account in the admissions process.

Candidates are selected based on their motivation and genuine interest in interdisciplinarity as well as their prior academic performance and the uniqueness of their academic profiles. Chosen candidates will be asked to sit for an interview around mid-May.
Eligibility to the FIRE PhD programme is first determined by a pre-selection committee made up of scientific members of the doctoral school council who will review candidate applications. Chosen candidates are then invited to present their projects before the Learning Planet Institute’s International Scientific Committee (ISC), whereby students whose projects are approved can be admitted to the programme provided they have secured funding.
All PhD students must secure funding of at least €1,747.20 (gross) per month over a period of three years. Because the PhD programme is not able to fund all selected candidates, students and their doctoral advisors are encouraged to apply for funding offered by other institutions and organisations (more information here).
Hosting labs ensure that FIRE PhD students can participate in the training offered by the Learning Planet Institute as well as broader Learning Planet Institute activities.
We are looking for researchers of diverse levels of experience to join our Research Collaboratory as team leaders. With three levels of fellowship available, short term (3-6 months), long term (1-3 years) and core (5 years), our Collaboratory hosts projects that combine open health, open synthetic and systems biology, open AI, open learning and open phronesis.
Our researchers are people who thrive in a collaborative setting, find inspiration in their daily interactions with peers of diverse backgrounds, work best in teams and enjoy cross-pollinating disciplines as well as charting unexplored terrain in research. Our researchers are active in Learning Planet Institute campus life through teaching and mentorship. They also generate ideas for collaborative projects to be piloted at the Learning Planet Institute, with the goal that these projects will take on a life of their own, branching off outside the walls of the campus to be taken up in broader society.
